BEST book on diet, nutrition and being healthy that I've ever read! Faith, expertise and heart of author makes it!

…At 49, I’ve been a binge eater for about three decades. For thirty years, the pattern’s been the same; Healthy breakfast, reasonable lunch…then I stuff my face with junk. I kept the weight off, for the most part, until about five years ago. That’s when my moderate binging (if there is such a thing) began to increase. A box of Cheezits and two pints of ice cream, or something equivalent, has become a nightly addiction. And it is an addiction. I crave the sweets and junk food to the point where I’m almost devoid of interest and bitter if I don’t have it. I’m angry that I can’t seem to control my eating.
…A couple weeks ago, I had recorded a program because, in flipping around the remote guide, I saw there was to be a guest who caught my attention. So, one morning I watched the interview. The guest was Kim Dolan Leto, and her book was F.I.T. Whatever it was that was in the two sentence description that caught my eye before, was magnified when the interview began. I’ve been trying to get a grip on this eating, binging, diet, hating myself for overeating thing for years. I’ve tried zero carb diets and lost all muscle mass and looked sickly. I tried all liquid diets and, after a week, ate everything not nailed down. And I’ve read all sorts of diet books, with only mild interest. From the moment Kim Leto opened her mouth, I was hooked.
…Kim Dolan Leto spoke about her dad, who had a stroke at 47. Though I exercise, I’ve been more and more concerned about the long term effects of my decade’s long binges. For the first time in my life, a recent blood test showed my cholesterol was a bit high. The author spoke to me in a way no previous diet or nutrition book author had. Her faith, her own struggles with dieting, her personality and her very apparent expertise all came through, loud and clear.
…A very caring person bought F.I.T. for me. Let me get right to the point. I’ve read a few exercise or nutrition books by famous people. Some chapters are overly long and complicated, while others are so short they leave you with more questions than answers. F.I.T. is the total opposite of that. The book is broken up into orderly, concise, informative, fairly short and personable chapters. Each is easy to read, but not full of fluff or info only a trained dietician could comprehend. Kim Leto clearly knows her stuff, which matters to me. But, the contents of each chapter are conveyed as though Leto is sitting right there, talking to you.
…Each chapter includes the practical application of what the chapter is about. She writes from the perspective of firsthand knowledge, and I could relate to so much of her personal story, though the specifics are different. Though the third of three nice dedications in her book is “to every woman who has struggled with her weight or body image”, this book is, to me, invaluable for both men “and” women. Personally, I would recommend it to "anyone" trying to diet and be healthy.
…You do not have to be of a particular faith to enjoy or reap the rewards of F.I.T. But, as a man of great faith and who places a great deal of value on faith, I very much appreciate that the author not only shares her strong faith, but she shows how faith is such an important part of diet and nutrition, much less everything else. Even more than Leto’s expertise, it’s her strong faith and the practical application of it to being fit that drew me to her and F.I.T.
…I’ve read F.I.T., but it’s not the kind of book you put away for a year, and then read again. It’s a book as well as a training manual. I will refer back to it, quite often, as I try to retrain myself the right way. The emphasis for my dieting attempts, in the past, has always been for the wrong reasons. I want to remain healthy for my family. The only times I’ve succeeded in life are when I let God be at the forefront of it all. Without at all being preachy, this book reaffirms that.
…My wife is reading F.I.T. next. Lots of diet and nutrition books have parts of what F.I.T. has, but none have the whole package. Leto has great expertise, and heart. I love the book, I love the way it’s laid out, and I love the size (definitively and utterly informative, but not two inches thick like a bloated encyclopedia). My great thanks to Kim Dolan Leto for writing this book.

A different approach to getting healthy!

"You can't turn on the TV or open a magazine without seeing a dieting product. We are so inundated with infomercials and ads, but if these products work, where are the lasting results? If 20 billion dollars are being spent on diet aids, and 108 million of us use them, how is it that nearly 70 percent of adults are overweight or obese? The answer is that we're trained in quick fixes that don't last." (pg 4).

So how can we lose weight? How can we find balance in the food choices we have in front of us? Is there a way to change our focus on not losing weight but instead getting healthy? Kim Dolan Leto, who has graced the covers of magazines like Oxygen, Fitness and Fitness Life believes that it is a belief in Christ that has kept her motivated to reach her fitness goals in a balanced and healthy way. In her book 10 Steps to Your F.I.T: Faith Inspired Transformation, she explains why your typical diets don't last and why as women we have a tendency to give up before we see any real results. She also explains that not all calories are created equal thus the reason why so many people can't lose weight or even those that do, put it all back on again and more within 2 years.

What you won't find her are any quick fixes but a balance approach to seeking God's power instead of our own will power for getting healthy. Weight loss will just be an added benefit to doing just that. She explains how fad diets promise quick results, but they often leave out the education, exercise, and how-to's to maintaining those results once the program is over. What's worse is that they make you rely on their product and believe it or not, any effects aren't long lasting.

She instructs readers on changing their negative thoughts, realizing where our previous efforts have failed us, and incorporates what she calls F.I.T. practices, between spiritual, mental and physical fitness into a "power hour." You won't find a book laced with work out routines, meal plans or recipes but this is an insightful, scripture based book to enable you to begin your journey to a healthy you. I am super excited to give this one a go, since I too, have been a diet junky, looking for a better way to lose weight, keep it off and stay healthy despite all the busy pressures of being a mom and wife.

I received 10 Steps to Your F.I.T: Faith Inspired Transformation by Kim Dolan Leto compliments of Fedd Books and Shelton Interactive for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own unless otherwise notated. There are some great tools to help inspire and keep you on the right path in each section, including Get F.I.T. at the conclusion of each chapter which include reflection questions and strategies that can help you incorporate that aspect into your own getting healthy plan. There are also some great online resources that are available to help you on your journey to health and fitness success that are included in this book. I can't wait to incorporate these tips in my own healthy lifestyle change and feels this one deserves a full 4.5 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

Great book written for those of faith, and not necessarily someone who is looking for a lot of "Hallelujahs"...........

Really good book. Full of ideas and help. I would only add that journaling what you eat and what the circumstances/feelings were when you ate is also a really good thing to do (she does mention journaling, generally). Also drinking water (although I think she mentions this). I signed up for her website to get emails/newsletters to help with the "journey",.... I would also love it if she had a Facebook page (maybe she does, I haven't checked yet) so her "devotees" could communicate with her and each other. UPDATE: I found that she does have a private Facebook page for her "group" - so I signed up - along with purchasing some other items, which was really reasonable in cost.....THE BUMMER was that, after I ordered, I went into my email and found a "welcome letter" for signing up for her newsletter WITH a 15% off coupon - so I lost out on getting 15% off!...Time to get busy and put her ideas into action!
