There has to be better
By Brian Hendricks
I know anyone who is going to purchase this book is doing so because they are taking a class relevant to the material covered in "Creating Inclusive Classrooms", but I still feel I must warn anyone who is taking a class (even someone such as myself who was excited to do so!) this book is boring, drags on far too long on many topics, and the method of citation is entirely too distracting to make for a smooth read.
Be prepared to labor through many of the chapters in this book. Even chapters that cover interesting material feels as it will drone on forever. The writers and editors have little desire to make this information interesting for the college student reader.
Another word of warning: If you are taking a class that uses this book and will be teaching at the secondary level, you will find many of their real-life examples woefully inadequate, as they focus on the primary level.
This book has good information, if you can manage to stay awake long enough to find it.

Long enough to be boring, short enough not to say anything...
By nilikimbia haraka
A composition teacher that I had in high school liked to refer to what he called the swim suit corollary, that is writing should be "short enough to be interesting but long enough to cover the subject." This text is the antithesis of that mentality. It is long enough to be boring while short enough not to say anything. I'm not quite sure what category of garments this would match up with, maybe knee length skirts?
The fact remains that while glossing over an impressive array of concepts and ideas the book never goes into enough depth about any of them to present any of them in enough depth to make reading it worthwhile. The entire book could either be summarized into a volume one tenth the size or a separate book could be written as an in depth examination of each chapter. Either one would be preferable to the endless statements that are so generalized it is impossible for them to be of interest.

good, but repetitive if not your first time looking at a teaching textbook. a rental as opposed to a buy, i'd say
By jo
I needed this for a class. It is a textbook. Certainly helpful, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anybody other than to-be teachers. I don't know that it is any more helpful than any other textbook required by whatever class you'll be taking, so I wouldn't suggest getting this book unless your class requires it. I also rented it from amazon as opposed to purchasing it and I'm SO HAPPY with that decision. For about $20 I had the book for 6 months (I believe) and was able to take notes on whatever I felt I needed from the book (certain charts and information like that were very helpful), but then I could return it, save money, and not have yet another bulky textbook about teaching! A lot of the information will be repetitive from other texts you already have if this isn't for your first teaching course... If this is for your first teaching course, then perhaps this should be the one you buy and keep and rent future ones! The rental program (AND ALSO CHECKING YOUR SCHOOL'S LIBRARY!!! There, you can "rent" them for FREE!) saved me money - which, as a teacher, is clutch!
